Important information on Revalidations:
Following the release of myClearance in November 2022, AGSVA placed a pause on revalidations. Due to this pause, customers may find the revalidation or expiry date on a clearance has passed.
AGSVA has now re-commenced revalidations and Security Officers will receive notice via email prior to a revalidation process commencing.
Clearances remain valid while there is an active sponsor. If sponsorship is removed clearances may be downgraded or cancelled.
Revalidations
The Australian Government Security Vetting Agency (AGSVA) revalidates all security clearances at regular intervals.
The interval depends on the level of the security clearance held:
- Baseline – 15 years
- Negative Vetting 1 (NV1) – 10 years
- Negative Vetting 2 (NV2) – 5 to 7 years
- Positive Vetting (PV) – 5 to 7 years
Clearance holders and their Security Officer will be notified by email and SMS when a periodic revalidation is due and a clearance application will be issued.
A security clearance will be cancelled if a clearance holder does not complete a revalidation.
Review for Cause
If any concerns are raised about a clearance holder’s suitability to hold a security clearance, AGSVA will initiate a review for cause outside of routine revalidation intervals.
Positive Vetting annual security appraisal
Holding a Positive Vetting (PV) security clearance requires a security appraisal to be completed annually. The appraisal addresses compliance with general clearance obligations, including:
- reporting changes in circumstances
- security incidents
- completing security awareness training.
During a PV annual appraisal a referee report from a current supervisor is required.
